U.S. Congressman, Hon. Vicente Gonzalez

As a native son of South Texas, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez has represented the 34^th District of Texas and is currently serving his fifth term in the United States Congress. For the last ten years, he has represented the district that encompasses parts of Corpus Christi and extends all the way to Brownsville, reflecting the great diversity of the rural, urban, industrial, agricultural counties and a rich mix of cultures and populations.

The Congressman will share his experiences in protecting and advancing regional economic and trade interests while representing abroad the key strengths of South Texas region and will highlight some of the challenges while the U.S. is navigating through turbulent times. His focus on engines of regional economic development include issues impacting NAS Kingsville, Army Depot in Corpus Christi and the Port of Corpus Christi as well as on the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County. He has been an advocate of higher education and rural healthcare in U.S. Congress.

Congressman Gonzalez has been playing a crucial role in strengthening national security and advancing the regional economic wellbeing through his service on the Congressional committees and caucuses—particularly, on the Financial Services Committee and on the subcommittees of National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Finance Institutions, and on the Capital Markets subcommittee. He is the chairman of the Congressional Oil and Gas Caucus, and co-chair of Critical Minerals Caucus, and is active on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Blue Dog Coalition and the New Democrat Coalition. Hon. Gonzalez was also appointed to the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group.

Congressman Gonzalez was educated in Corpus Christi and is a graduate of Del Mar College where he received his associate’s degree in Banking and Finance. He worked through college at Embry Riddle University, where many of his classmates were active-duty military personnel, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Aviation. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from the then Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law). He opened his own law practice, V. Gonzalez & Associates, in 1997. Hon. Gonzalez is married to Lorena Saenz Gonzalez, a former teacher and school administrator in Edinburg and McAllen.
