Prof. Phil Scherer, a specialist in labor economics and economic theory has studied tariffs and marketing throughout his academic career. His research and teaching focused on economics and finance at several universities including Louisiana State University-Shreveport and Virginia State College. He has conducted comparative research analyzing labor shortages and surpluses in the Canadian and American societies and has the deep insight into how tariffs work in transborder businesses and their impact on the consumer. He will help us gain a realistic and objective knowledge of how precisely tariffs work in the context of corporate business and their consumers.

Prof. Scherer will take us through the positive and negative aspects of tariffs and through the complicated terrain of exports, imports, monetary aspects of international trade to make sense of the evolving climate of business. He will explain through illustrations the very idea and purpose of a tariffs.

Prof. Scherer brings to us four decades of academic teaching, research and leadership. He is former Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration, Chairman of the Department of Commerce and Professor Emeritus at Niagara University in New York. He was also a Senior Research Analyst at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he studied Social Security and retirement patterns and policy. His published works also focused on the ethical implications of layoffs in American industries. His research was published in journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, The Journal of Economic Education and Business Conditions Quarterly.
