Poland, sharing a 330-mile common border with Ukraine, is the first country to come to the rescue of Ukraine in the current and tragic conflict with Russia. The Honorable Consul General Rusiecki will address questions such as: What is the geopolitical history of Poland and the region that will help us understand what led to Russia unleashing its wrath on Ukraine? What has been the impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine and consequences on Poland? What is the latest situation with millions of Ukrainian citizens coming across Poland’s borders as refugees? How is Poland facing this situation internally and externally? What is Poland’s current policy towards Russia? How does the U.S. foreign policy and role fit into Poland’s historical ties with the West?

Hon. Rusiecki will help us grasp the tragic events in the region in the context of Poland’s geopolitical history, its road to independence and return to the Western European nations sphere after 1989 and the upcoming Constitution Day being celebrated on May 3.

Hon. Rusiecki has been the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Houston since 2018. He served as deputy Consul General of Poland in Chicago and as the Head of Embassy’s Consular Section in London, UK. He graduated from the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Modern Languages. Prior to entering Poland’s foreign service, he spent most of his earlier professional career in financial institutions in Warsaw.
