From the Symbiotic to Ambivalence

July 28, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:15 pm

Dr. Cisneros

Dr. Jose A. Cisneros

We are back at the Ortiz Center for in-person monthly luncheons!

What’s the secret behind the lasting and steadfast relationship between United States and Mexico? What are the abiding and salient features of a sacred partnership that have withstood centuries of challenging issues over time? How can the current cross-border troubles be explained and understood in a historical context? What are the prospects for a more harmonious relationship between these two biggest trade partners?

Dr. Cisneros will take us through the fascinating history of Texas Independence, Mexico’s battle with France with U.S. assistance, the Brasero program, war on drugs, migration flows as well as the positive effects of the relationship with Mexico under each of the U.S. Presidencies from Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barak Obama, Donald Trump and Joseph Biden.

Native of Puebla, Mexico, Dr. Cisneros is a distinguished political scientist specializing in democratic development and Latinx Studies in the United States and Latin America. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in International Relations from UDLAP in Mexico, and pursued a Masters and Ph.D. in International Development at the University of East Anglia in the UK.
