Quenton Dokken, a native of Corpus Christi, holds graduate degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-College Station with emphasis in marine science and wildlife and fisheries science. Past positions include Executive Director, Texas State Aquarium and Associate Director, Center for Coastal Studies Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He has conducted scientific investigations of natural and artificial reef dynamics and socioeconomics of Texas fisheries. Quenton has been involved in the offshore oil/gas industry as an environmental consultant. He currently is an advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy on environmental considerations of oil/gas exploration and production in ultra-deepwater environments.
In 2006, Quenton assumed full time responsibilities as Executive Director of the Gulf of Mexico Foundation, a non-profit conservation focused organization operating in all five U.S. Gulf States, two Mexico Gulf States, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Nationally recognized programs of the Foundation include education outreach and habitat restoration. Currently, Quenton is working with the Governor of Veracruz, Fidel Herrera Beltran, and numerous state and federal agencies to establish baselines for the “State of the Gulf of Mexico” and alliances for international collaboration to establish resource management strategies that ensure sustainability of environmental health and productivity as well as economic productivity.
